DESCRIPTION
24 y/o African American keys player. I've been gifted with the ability to play by God - for about 15 years now. Everyone that hears me, say I have a similar Joe Sample/Herbie Hancock style. |
BIOGRAPHY
I was quiet, and very intellectual. I never really went outdoors even when my dad permitted it. I loved taking electronic devices apart - to see what was in them. I used to take little devices like a walkman (do they still make them?) And find the amplification circuits and play my Nintendo game system through it. I used to read as well as cook - can't leave that out! My dad was a master chef, who used to find it quite useful to sit back and tell his eldest son what to do - especially when there was a big event at church. Now then, where does music come in at? Here we go... I used to play on the piano (notice I said play on the piano) at church and at my aunt's house when I was younger. Trust me, it wasn't a pleasant sound. I remember several instances where I was told to get off the piano. Finally when I got a little older, my dad taught me how to play. It was an old fashioned basic style. Very embarrassing when I played around people my age. They used to laugh at me. I remember one day in particular, I was trying to play a gospel song "Lord I'm running". I was around nine years old. I was playing it in that old fashioned style. Talk about embarrassed!! Some of the people standing around just laughed and laughed. So, I went home hurt and embarrassed. That next Sunday before church, I was playing on a piano in one of the prayer rooms. I was just so disgusted with the way I played. So after trying to change my style, on a sudden impulse, I decided to pray. I didn't really think about it. I just did. I prayed a prayer - one that I'd never forget: "Lord please teach me how to play!!" In seconds, to my surprise, my hands started playing a way I never played before. It still had hints of the old fashioned, but it was different. I was excited and started playing "Its so sweet to be saved." Well some still laughed - that is until I prayed again: "Lord each time I play let me get better and better." Sure enough miracously I played better and better - in fact, I went through just about everyone's style in my church that played!! It was amazing, my ear could pick up anything. And I could play whatever I heard. So that's my story. There's more to it, but I believe I've taken up enough time already.
